Birch wood was originally used in making canoes, and throughout the years, has been used for producing household items and furniture as well. The wood has a fine, uniform texture, and is very beautiful in color. Its hue is usually a very golden, yellow color, and brings a lot of light to any room it is installed in. It goes very well with brown and light colored furnishings as well as contemporary designs, and can match any type of a house. Typically, it is 5 to 10 inches in width, 6 to 14 feet in length, and anywhere from half an inch to three fourths of an inch in thickness. Usually, the price of birch is expensive, starting from $10 per square foot. The grain wirls, and is not uniform throughout. Birch hardwood flooring is very durable and tough, and great for large rooms.
