Hardwood floor installation is really not as difficult a task as it may seem. If the installation of the floors is planned prior to the installment of the floors, the process will be much simpler and quicker, as well as satisfying at the end. Installing hardwood floors may take a bit of time, but it does not necessarily require talent, skill, or prior experience with installing hardwood floors. For installing engineered hardwood floors, there are three different methods, which include floated, glued, or nailed or stapled installation. Floated installation usually uses 1/8 of an inch of urethane foam sheeting, while the glued method uses an adhesive and the nailing uses staples or nails to hold the wood in place. For installation, one must first cover the floor with a layer of felt, making sure to overlap the layers by a few inches. Indicate at least ½ of an inch of gap between the floor and the wall, so that you can later install the molding. Take a plank and begin installing the first row by drilling pilot holes. Next, you can blind-nail the rows by hand, and make sure to drill the pilot holes at the ends as well as every ten inches of the planks. Follow that up with fastening the finishing nails in their place, and continue in this manner for the other rows. When installing other rows, always make sure to use a mallet to tighten the new row against the edge of the previous row, to make sure that the planks fit together and stay in place. When installing the last row, utilize a block and a pry bar in order to secure the boards into their place.
