Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Hardwood floor refinishing is not a very difficult process, but a very important procedure in the installation of hardwood floors. First, you can begin by obtaining a container of polyurethane finish and stirring its contents. Make sure to stir it, not shake it, for you may cause air bubbles to form in doing so. Next, you can apply the polyurethane utilizing either a roller or a brush. When applying the finish to the hardwood floors, make sure to use smooth strokes and brush going with the grain, not against it. It is very crucial to be extremely careful in the manner in which you take the strokes. Each stroke should be equal and smooth; you cannot rush this process, for it will destroy the quality and appearance of the wood. Next, you have to wait for the finish to dry completely. Depending on what type or brand of hardwood floor or finish it is, it may take up to three hours for the drying process. After it is dry, you can apply a second or third coat of finish for parts of the hardwood that are high traffic areas. After you have finished applying the final coat, allow it to dry completely over a long period of time, at least overnight. Even after it dries, you must wait a few more days until you can place furniture on it or move things around, just to make sure the hardwood and the finish is not damaged. If you do not wish to undergo this finishing or refinishing process, you can also buy prefinished hardwood floors, which cut down the time of installation by a large amount.
